PAT MILLS

I’m Pat Mills, The Godfather of British Comics, bestselling author of comics, thrillers and non-fiction. I have a long and successful career of writing exciting and subversive stories and created the industry-changing British sf anthology 2000AD (featuring Judge Dredd). My Doctor Who Comic story Star Beast was adapted for the 60th Anniversary Doctor Who TV Special. I’m known for my strong characters, visionary world-building, and subversive subtext.

I’m currently working on the final volume of my Requiem Vampire Knight series with top fantasy artist Olivier Ledroit, plus two spin-off stories from the Requiem universe.

Last year, we ran our first highly successful Kickstarter campaign for Sha 1: The Shadow One (drawn by Olivier Ledroit), which will be available soon to all readers. This year, I’m also writing Ragtime Soldier, a WWI story set in Dundee, which was another successful Kickstarter campaign, with artists Gary Welsh and Phillip Vaughan.

Some of my best-loved stories and characters are: my ten-volume antiwar story Charley’s War with the late Joe Colquhoun, the cult classic anti-superhero Marshal Law with Kevin O’Neill.

Nemesis The Warlock, Slaine, ABC Warriors, and Accident Man, which has been adapted for two movies starring Scott Adkins.

I’ve written three non-fiction titles on comics and creative writing: Be Pure! Be Vigilant! Behave! 2000AD & Judge Dredd The Secret History; Kiss My Axe!, Sláine The Warped Warrior The Secret History, and Pageturners: How to write iconic stories from the creator of 2000AD.

I live in a small Andalusian village in the Serrania de Ronda with my wife Lisa, who is also my independent publisher, and far too many rescue cats.

Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons with The Meep!

“The Meep! I love that story. I love it, I love it. Two kids find a monster in their shed, and it’s the most hilarious monster ever. A furball! Also, the story fits the Doctor meeting Donna again: the Doctor integrating himself with an Earth family and getting caught up in adventure. It is the best story in the world. Sometimes I think, there’s no better story.”
